This isn't "therapy," it's is mental abuse

Conversion therapy isn't therapy at all. It is a way to take advantage of a vulnerable population and putting heavy social pressures on them that will negatively affect their self-image and mental health. It reminds me of the Tuskegee Trials. This vulnerable population is told all the so called "benefits" of the treatment without knowing, to an honest extent, the risks. In fact, I don't think that anyone knows the full extent of the risks since the practice is not openly talked about and their likely isn't any non-baised research to follow those who have been through it. What these children and young adults hear are specific cases that they are taught to cling to as the norm when, the majority of those who have been through conversion therapy are not assessed as a whole. This is intentionally painting an inaccurate and unmeasured picture. We would not allow this with any type of medication therapy. The FDA regulates such matters. Unfortunately, the importance of the health of the cognitive brain has yet to become as socially accepted. Were it so now, or when it does become more acknowledged, something like this would have regulations likely be considered serious malpractice.
