I live in Oxford House - Deer Spring in Williamsburg, Virginia. Oxford Houses are democratically self-governing and self-supporting under the Oxford House system of operations. Oxford house has saved my life in multiple ways. The Oxford house model as it is is what truly showed me that having responsibility isn’t meant to be a problem. Having responsibility is something I get to do thanks to Oxford house. It has showed me how to live again and shows me day by day how living with other people in recovery can truly change your mindset. Having brothers or sisters to come home to and let them know how you are feeling in that moment and them showing you they truly care. Without Oxford House I don’t know where I would be right now. I support rules that keep people safe, but rules that require staff or assume every home is a commercial business would keep Oxford Houses from operating in Virginia, even though research shows our model gets the best results. Please change those rules, and please clarify whether house members are considered the operator.
