I'd like for someone to explain why we aren't using the same thought process for kratom that we do for everything else.
When someone with a gun commits a mass shooting the response from Virginia legislation has been guns don't kill people, the shooter does.
When a surgeon leaves a surgical sponge in a patient and they die we don't try to ban surgical sponges.
When people fall for the snake oil pushed by influencers and make their kids sick by having them ingest bleach or essential oils we don't call for banning cleaning supplies.
Kratom has been used for a long time by A LOT of people. I personally know multiple people who use it for everything from arthritis to nervous system disorders and it allows them to be humans with lives and not broken individuals who vegetate.
Unfortunately, it seems like most of the people who have objections with kratom are those who have lost a loved one. And while I understand the hurt and emotions they feel that is no excuse to rip the quality of life away from other people because a very small minority, most who likely had other contributing factors like preexisting conditions, had isolated issues. This thought process is selfish and reactionary.
This petition is an overreach and denying access to something that has helped so many is sadistic. It is reactionary, emotional, and not prioritizing the proper demographic. I'm sorry people have lost their loved ones, but a lot of people have lost loved ones on a larger scale to various medications and medical procedures far more regulated and even prescribed, than kratom.
The proper procedure would be to push for warning labels or age verification for purchase like with alcohol, cigarettes, energy drinks, or over the counter meds. All which have contributed to more deaths or disorders than kratom.
