Midwives in VA are responsible for the care of mother and babies before, during, and immediately after birth. However the law does not allow them the ability to respond adequately in all the situations they face. There are several parts of the Commonwealth where a hospital is more than an hour away. Midwives are need to be able to use appropriate pharmaceutical solutions to protect those mothers and babies they are responsible for.
