If we take the religious message out of conversion therapy, then what exactly is left? Mostly a harmful message directed towards a non-heterosexual audience. 

The American Psychiatric Association is against such practices, calling this pseudoscience "unethical".

There is no reason for this practice. It identifies certain genders as "mental disorders", and has devastating repercussions on individuals who suffer through it. 

Do not group God in with this. 

Take it as it is; a repressive, sexist, hateful practice. Telling people, CHILDREN,  that they are fundamentally wrong and unworthy is absolutely despicable. There is no love, only fear, in such a practice.
