In reference to freedom of choice, expression, and religion of both counselor and client- banning or imposing penalties for inappropriate and dangerous behavior in therapy is not new.  Our ethics tell us not to engage in sexual relationships with clients, not to inflict harm, not to engage in techniques in which we are not competent, etc.  A ban on conversion therapy is protection for clients from a practice that has been deemed dangerous and inappropriate.  Ban the practice of conversion therapy, as it is not ethical nor is it therapeutic.
