This petition, which appears to have been started by a pharmacist, is a glaring example of the unfortunate and disgusting trend of medical professionals inserting their bias into their jobs. There are numerous articles about medical providers, especially pharmacists, refusing to fill medications like birth control due to their personal opinions. Patient trust in medical providers is at a low and petitions like these just increase that distrust. And it should, this petition is proof of medical providers hypocrisy and narcissism.
Kratom has been used as medication since the 1800s and is still used heavily in non Western medicine. The complications and side effects are similar, and even lesser, than a lot of over the counter medications that these pharmacists have in their stores. They are attacking kratom that some people need to function while filling Ozempic for people who want to lose weight even though there are constant reports of new side effects like bowel obstruction. Quite frankly, it appears maybe these healthcare providers should focus more on the safety of prescriptions they write and sell and then maybe we wouldn't have had the opioid epidemic that popularized kratom in the first place.
This petition and the petitioner is out of line. Kratom works, has the same level of habit forming as coffee, and won't cause death or an overdose itself unless there are underlying health conditions, much the opposite of some of the medications they routinely prescribe and fill.
This petition reeks of entitlement and prejudice. Western medicine isn't always superior and attacks on eastern or holistic medication stems from ignorance, elitism, or just straight up greed.
The medical providers against kratom should focus on their jobs, treating patients and not demonizing them because they disagree with them or have to do a little extra research to treat them. Until they start a petition to ban alcohol, cigarettes, fast food, Tylenol, motorcycles, and support stronger punishment for the medication administration errors they make (all which kill more people than kratom), their opinions are simply that, their opinions.
