Goals of Regulation |
To protect the public health and/or welfare with the least possible costs and intrusiveness to the citizens and businesses of the Commonwealth. To establish standards and procedures pertaining to the siting, design, construction, operation, maintenance, closure, post-closure care, and for undertaking corrective action in order to protect the public's health, safety and welfare and the environment from the harmful results of the mismanagement of solid wastes by its generators, storers, treaters or disposers. To provide the means for identification and prevention of open dumping. To establish a sound regulatory and programmatic basis for obtaining and maintaining approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to operate Virginia's program. |
