CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR VIRGINIA P.E. LICENSE

Continuing education is obviously in both the engineers and the public interest.  But to mandate anything as pre-requisite for maintaining the P.E. license must be driven by just one criteria:  public safety.  For instance, hypothetically speaking, if Virginia suddenly became seismically active for whatever reason, then all civil engineers must be reeducated according to the seismic exam in California.  This means that such mandates should ideally be a rare to never (close to never) event triggered by some serious lapse/deficiency in current education (that any serious professional would normally acquire to maintain a job...which the P.E. already certifies) to fully meet a clear, present and immediate public safety requirement.  Otherwise, I agree with the majority above...it is just going to be a disruptive, expensive, frivolous and pointless.
