Why is this necessary?

Why has the subject of continuing education surfaced? Has there neen an instance where CE would have prevented a problem, collapse, failure or is this a ruse by lawmakers to apply some standard that they themselves are probaly not held to - i.e. do lawmakers have to have CE, if not why not? As one responder has pointed out, on the job experience and working under a PE is probably far and away more helpful than a 2 hour course on Excel!

I am also registered in Alabama which has a CE requiremnt, it is generally pretty easy to comply with and as of this year we do not have to submit annualy what CE credits we "earned", however at any time we could be required to produce the backup data.

Unless there is a need for CE proven by a problem, why try to solve a non problem? I am nearing retirement and one of the most valuable assests I have is PE after my name. I will keep it as long as I can pay the fee and hopefully will not have to go to class. I have earned my PE as others have.

Please, no CE.
