Adopting these regulations would be a step back in gifted education. As the parent of two children who participated in gifted programs throughout their K-12 years, I can attest to the fact that the current system works well in providing an environment conducive to excelling in academics. The proposed regulations, decreasing central oversight of this program, would severely hinder the progress made by these students. Delocalization would lead to decreased funding and large discrepancies in quality of education among the state. A fully funded, high quality gifted program should be a privilege available in all areas.
