I am a California acupuncturist. I oppose dry needling because only 50 hours is needed for those who want to practice this method of therapy while professional doctors need 4 years before they can start working. Four years and 50 hours is a drastic difference. Clinicians lack first hand clinical experience. Dry needling is based on theory while medicine should be based on scientific evidence. Dry needling is unreliable and if not done absolutely correctly can have nasty effects. They have taken ideas from the fundamentals of acupuncture and copied and altered it. Therefore, I strongly oppose the practice of dry needling.
