I strongly support this petition. As a recent graduate of a Clinical Psychology Masters Program, I find it unfair and petty that I, a student trained in assessing and COUNSELING clients, am not able to sit for the LPC exam. I should be judged on my coursework and competence, NOT on the orientation of my program. If the Virginia Licensing Board really cared about the clients at hand, all properly trained mental health professional should be allowed to enter the field with a LPC. Why place such restrictions? Why hinder us as students trying to enter the job market? Most of us got into this field to help others- let us do that.
