The State of Virginia has taken a great step forward with the creation of the current regulations overseeing the licensing of Behavior Analysts in Virginia. I have worked int he field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for over 30 years and it is good to see states taking steps to recognize and regulate the field. The lack of such licensing regulations by many states, either interferes with the provision of ABA services or allows those services to be rendered with no local oversight. Having reviewed the Virginia regulations they are appropriate and provide adequate safeguards for the public as written. If an Advisory Board is established it should consist of Licensed Behavior Analysts, Licensed Assistant Behavior Analysts, along with members from the community. Such a Board can then make or suggest any changes to the existing regulations that may be needed in the future.
