As a licensed professional counselor in Virginia, I strongly oppose this petition. Counseling and Psychology are two distinctly different professions, with different core philosophies, ethical codes, training foci, treatment foci, and thus separate licenses. It is critical that those who hold the LPC credential are accurately represented for the type of training they have obtained as well as the type of care/philosophy/practice they will offer to consumers.  There are many other important points that have been eloquently made by my colleagues who hold LPC licensure across the state of Virginia. I hope you will take these into consideration and dismiss this petition.
