Please protect our rights

I am writing as my father’s daughter and primary caretaker to urge you to protect his right to choose his own service facilitator. My father is blind, has Type 1 diabetes, and is suffered from a 2019 stroke. He depends on consistent support to maintain his health, safety, independence, and dignity.

His relationship with his current facilitator is built on trust, compassion, and a deep understanding of his needs. We have experienced how harmful it can be when a facilitator is not the right fit. The right facilitator improves his quality of life and helps me provide effective care.

We should not be forced to abandon this trusted relationship because of a policy or system change. For people with disabilities and complex medical needs, continuity of care is essential. Disrupting it can threaten health and safety while placing additional burdens on family caregivers.

Choosing his own facilitator gives my father a meaningful voice in decisions that affect his life. Please protect his right to choose the person he trusts and preserve the relationship essential to his care.

Thank you for considering the needs of individuals with disabilities and the families who support them.

Sincerely,

A concerned daughter and caretaker
