Strongly Oppose this Repeal

I am a student at William & Mary, from the Shenandoah valley and I strongly oppose this repeal. It is unlawful and will harm the state- both people and environment. This will result in higher carbon emissions despite the governor’s claims that emissions will fall on their own regardless. Data shows that the bill is working, as VA’s power plant emissions have gone down 12.5% from 2020 and 2021 and 8% from 2021 to 2022. This bill lowers air pollution, resulting in healthier citizens and fewer respiratory illnesses and condition. RGGI led to 5.7 billion dollars in health benefits for states that participated.
Additionally, as a Christian I believe we have a responsibility to people and to creation. If you are a Christian as well, I urge you to research the effects this bill will have on people in poverty. This will prevent VA’s largest source of funds to victims of floods, which primarily affect vulnerable communities which can’t afford better infrastructure. If your goal is to protect families, act as Christ to others, care for God’s creation, and maintain the structure of law in our state, please join me in opposing this repeal.

“The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” -Matthew 25:40
