Purpose of the meeting
A public hearing to receive comments on a permit application from South Boston Energy, LLC to build a wood-fired power plant near South Boston, VA. The applicant proposes to use wood as the primary fuel (approximately 640,000 tons combusted per year) with diesel or biodiesel for startup and other ancillary activities (approximately 1,400,000 gallons combusted per year). The following pollutants will have add-on control technology that are proposed to control the air pollution from the facility: particulate matter, SO2, CO, and NOx. The estimated effect on air quality near the facility from the proposed project meets all air quality standards. An information briefing will be held prior to the public hearing beginning at 6:00 p.m. The public comment period begins on October 22, 2010 and ends on December 7, 2010.
