Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Strongly oppose

I strongly oppose your recommendations and guidelines for transgender students/people in school bathrooms and locker rooms. I am the mother of a female student and you are infringing on her rights to privacy in the girls bathroom and locker room. As a young girl and even now I don’t feel comfortable changing clothes around other girls much less a MAN!!! You are putting my child’s safety at risk when you say it is ok for a biological male to go in the girls bathroom/ locker room because he feels like he is a girl. This gives boys/men the excuse to go in the bathroom to look at a girl naked or even  rape her! There is no problem with you giving transgender people their own bathroom or changing area but their rights should not be more important than other peoples rights! The transgender population is less then 1% of the population and you are giving them rights over the majority! I hope in your liberal ways your child or daughter don’t get raped from choosing to do this! Wouldn’t that be a shame!!!

sincerely black boxed Va citizen!
