I support the No Kill Advocacy Center Petition for Rulemaking filed on 1/23/15 with the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (Board).
All shelters - especially ones that receive public funding (my tax dollars) must be held accountable for every animal they take in, the care they provide, and the effort undertaken to ensure the animal is placed in a home (or for feral cats, that they are neutered and released without harm back into their environment). It is unconscionable and unacceptable for entities to receive public dollars or tax-exempt donations, and fail to deliver on their promise to provide care, as they kill healthy, adoptable pets without giving them an opportunity to find homes.
I support the petitioner's request that the Board amend regulations for public and private shelters and require that certain records as described in the petitioner's request for each animal received be obtained and kept for 5 years to allow inspection by the Board and the public.
The petitioner's request for amended regulations fairly balances the public's right to know with accepted sheltering practices.
