Please Preserve Services Facilitation and Family Choice in Virginia Waiver Services

I am writing as a Medicaid waiver family member to express my strong opposition to the proposed changes that would replace the current Services Facilitation model with a Support Brokerage model.

For my family, Services Facilitation is much more than an administrative service.  Our services facilitator has been a trusted guide, with whom we have built a personal relationship.  They have helped us understand requirements, navigate paperwork, and ensure that services remain in place.  They have been especially helpful in assisting with access to adaptive modifications around our home to ensure my disabled family member can navigate safely within the house.  Without this support, I worry that families like ours will face increased stress, confusion, and risk of service interruptions.

I am also deeply concerned about the potential loss of choice.  Families should have the ability to choose the service provider who best meets their needs.  Every family has different preferences and support needs, and a one-size-fits-all approach will not provide the same level of individualized assistance that many families rely on.

I am asking DMAS and state policymakers to consider the impact these proposed changes will have on waiver participants.  Preservation of the current Service Facilitation supports is in the best interest of all Virginia waiver participants and their families.  These services make a real difference in the lives of Virginians with disabilities.
