To Whom it concerns ,
My daughter was an active addict starting at the age of 17 . As the story usually goes , things went from bad to worse as the years passed . She lost EVERYTHING, her children , her dwelling , her relationships with family . Finally , after almost 20 years of addiction she had a charge placed on her that would have likely caused jail time etc . At that point she was living in her vehicle with her dog just surviving each day . When they came to get her she called me to come get her dog and a few days later she called me from jail to tell me she “?was done “ . She finally said the words that I had waited 20 years to hear . We found a recovery program and she went and excelled in it . Then she heard about Oxford House of Virginia . She left the recovery program and started living in an Oxford House . That was almost five years ago and now she is an outreach coordinator for them and is excelling there as well . Oxford House is unique but yet so successful. My daughter has rebuilt her life while living there . She has a relationship with her children and family again , she has learned to handle her finances and her credit . She does presentations at their meetings and conventions. Without Oxford House she would have likely returned to the addiction because Oxford House teaches the folks to function in real life and be successful citizens despite their previous choices . I am so grateful for Oxford House . Please please continue to let them do what they do for these people in recovery .
