Menhaden play a crucial role in supporting sport fishing in the Chesapeake Bay. The recent declines in both Stripe Bass and Blue Fish are a direct result of overfishing of Menhaden. The economic benefits of sport fishing are far greater than that of commercial Menhaden fishing. It’s time to ban the commercial fishing of Menhaden in the Chesapeake Bay.
