As a retired pediatrician/neonatologist I can attest to the fact that gender assignment at birth is not always as straightforward as the public may be led to believe. This petition puts caregivers in the position of making gender determination without regard to its complexity or profound impact on those whose chromosomes and physical development do not concur with their physiologic gender. To police the activity of transsexual people is not the role of the Board of Health. Education of the public regarding the complex process of gender assignment(and dare I say re-assignment) including when it err’s might be.The determination of unfair advantage in sports is also a quite complex process but in some people’s mind is simply age and assigned birth gender.Is race next ? How would that be defined. What if one is born taller,stronger, faster etc etc. Again, simply said, this is NOT the role of the Health Department.
