Petition 432 is discriminatory, endangers all women, and returns us to the distant past that deeply shames Americans and religious people specifically.
This is predatory legislation, creating a problem where none exists. It will endanger all women. Any girl or woman that doesn’t fit some random person’s view of femininity can be accosted, challenges and traumatized. They may or may not be trans. How will you even know? Tall? Strong jaw? Flat chested? Unisex clothing?
Trans women have been using bathrooms that align with their gender expression for decades. And like all women they may see each other wash their hands and reapply lipstick.
they may play sports and participate in society like everyone else. Statistically, this legislation makes it far more likely that a skilled CIS girl will be humiliated, accosted and asked to prove her gender- and how would and how would she do that- show her genitalia?
Courageous LGBTQ+ trans people are here, they have been here and they will always be among us because as we can tell by looking around gender occurs on a spectrum.
As a child protection expert Virginia and the federal government need to devote resources and public education of preventing harm by educating adults and children about their rights to bodily autonomy, suitable boundaries, and how to respond when harm happens. Cutting the CDC Violence Center and all data tracking, stigmatizing and endangering LGBTQ+ people will have far reaching, disastrous results. Recent RAND research in the US military proved that as sexual harassment increased, the likelihood of abuse increased for women, but increased even more for men.
Making LGBTQ+ and trans people less safe makes all of us less safe.
