Kratom is legal in Virginia, and regulated under the Kratom Consumer Protection Act, an act passed by the bipartisan legislature and signed by the governor. This act was done in 2023 there is no ambiguity that the intent of the law is to have a regulated marketplace for this product for adults to use at their discretion.
The tools exist for the state to pursue cases against adulterated products and those who sell contrary to the law. If changes need to be made, or should be made, the proper authority to do so is a duly elected legislature.
No matter what anyone believes about kratom good or bad, safe or unsafe, for an unelected board to try to contravene the elected legislature is undemocratic and shameful. It has no place in American government.
It is shameful to propose, and would be shameful for a board to indulge.
