Regulations for Prescriptive Authority for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses [18 VAC 90 ‑ 40]
Action:
Elimination of separate license for prescriptive authority
Action 4958

General Information
Action Summary The Boards of Nursing and Medicine intend to eliminate the requirement for a separate license for a nurse practitioner to have prescriptive authority. It is likely that Chapter 40, Regulations for Prescriptive Authority for Nurse Practitioners, will be repealed and the necessary provisions incorporated into a new Part in Chapter 30, Regulations Governing the Licensure of Nurse Practitioners. The goal is to reduce the financial and logistical burden on nurse practitioners who must now maintain a separate license in order to prescribe.
