I am in support of revising the current Clinical Nurse Specialist regulations by adopting the language of the Consensus Model for APRN Regulations, Licensure, Accreditation, Certification, & Education (LACE). Clinical Nurse Specialists have a long history of providing quality and affordable care to vulnerable populations, particularly persons with mental health conditions and perinatal clients/patients. The adoption of the LACE Model will ensure uniformity in licensure, accreditation, certification, and education for all Commonwealth APRNS including Clinical Nurse Specialists. This is in line with the IOM “Future of Nursing” report which challenges States to reduce fragmentation within the nursing profession and therefore enhance the quality of healthcare by allowing APRNs to work to the full extent of their training and education.
