The only reason to be against competency training is if someone is against knowing how to be racially inclusive and fair. competency training therefore protects all of our students from teachers who will favor students of specific races. If a teacher is not racist, then it should not be a concern to do competency training, and if they are - why should they be welcome in our school systems? Why should they be welcome around our students and other faculty? A system that allows this fear of racial equality training is a school system that is okay with putting their students at risk. This training protects students who will be unjustly affected by policies, actions, words, and other unseen circumstances that teachers will be more aware of through this training. I support competency training for all teachers, board members, and other faculty in the Virginia school systems.
