Guidance Document Change: The Model Policies for the Treatment of Transgender Students in Virginia’s Public Schools guidance document was developed in response to House Bill 145 and Senate Bill 161, enacted by the 2020 Virginia General Assembly, which directed the Virginia Department of Education to develop and make available to each school board model policies concerning the treatment of transgender students in public elementary and secondary schools. These guidelines address common issues regarding transgender students in accordance with evidence-based best practices and include information, guidance, procedures, and standards relating to: compliance with applicable nondiscrimination laws; maintenance of a safe and supportive learning environment free from discrimination and harassment for all students; prevention of and response to bullying and harassment; maintenance of student records; identification of students; protection of student privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive information; enforcement of sex-based dress codes; and student participation in sex-specific school activities, events, and use of school facilities.

Virginia Transgender Policies

As a student in Rockingham County School I strongly disagree with this legislation. While it may seem inclusive for those who claim to have gender dysmorphia, it completely ignores the fact that there are others who believe there is no such thing. Parents should have a say in their child's life. Children cannot make some decisions on their own. As a Christian this goes against a lot of my beliefs. It seems as if the VA government doesnt care about people who have the same beliefs as me but rather only care about the other side. This is ridiculous. The fact that you would allow any one to "choose their gender" and go to whatever bathroom/locker room is just asking for trouble. This will cause all kinds of sexual assault issues. No doubt. This legislation is completely out of line and should NOT be adopted. I hope legislators come to their senses and see how ridiculous this is.
