It's good to see legislation that requires developers to take part in already established efforts of the agricultural community, major industry, and local governments to reduce pollution in water. I see these amendments as a necessary next step in the continual march of progress for the Virginia Stormwater Management Regulations original intent of agreeable, not unbearable, compliance in water quality, stream channel erosion, and flooding. Given our nation's increasing prioritization of environmentalism and the recent influx in data collection contributing to a better understanding of Virginia's streams, it is important for every level of society to contribute their share to protecting water quality. Having lived in Richmond for most of my life, I would like to see the James River protected from drainage from Richmond. As a Harrisonburg resident for the past five years, I want to see the Shenandoah River and the North River in a cleaner condition, since local run-off from developmen is already contributing to poor conditions for fish.
