Having had to obtain CE credits for the past 15 years in another state.........

I have at times found it to be a burden to find courses, workshops, seminars, etc. that will satisify civil engineering continuing education.  Penn State Univ. and Univ. of Maryland offer some very good courses that range from 1 to 5 days in length.  However, changing the CE's required from 16 to 15 to be consistent with other states makes it easier on all of us.  From my experience, the cost of obtaining a 1 hour CE credit  ranges from $100 to $200/hour ($1500 - $3000 per year), not including travel expenses.  Training developed and run by individual college professors tends to be the most expensive since they realize that they essentially have a captive audience.

The training I've had over the years has been very beneficial; however, the availability of training opportunities may be plentiful one year and slim to none the next.  Therefore, there needs to be some lienency in the process and it should not be used to punish engineers.  Please keep it simple!
