Continuing Education For Professional Engineers

Thank you for this opportunity to comment on the propose rule change - besides being licensed in the Commonwealth, I am licensed by the State of Florida which has had the continuing education rule for more than a decade - I have found that it is not cumbersome or inconvenient - the rule requires 8 hours of continuing education to renue one's license - in this case, every 2 years - the Florida Board has made many courses of study available to the engineering community - in fact, your notice arrived on the day that I completed a 5-hour course w/in an hour of my office - it related to soils identification as they relate to various environmental requirements such as storm water treatment facilities - there were some growing pains in the beginning, but the engineering community now accepts generally the condition to keep one's license current - in order for the rule change to be successful & quicky accepted, it must be a simple straight forward process w/a satisfactory array of courses from which to choose - there are some elements that could be altered in the Florida system, but overall it works very well - Tom O'Kane
