Continuing Education Courses provide no benefit to those who practice the profession on a daily basis. Currency is dependent upon practicing the profession, not upon going to continuing education classes. Ask any professional who has had to go to these courses in other states and the vast majority will say that the information provided by these courses is usually outdated. We are trained as professionals to make efficient use of time and materials, continuing education for practicing professionals does neither.
Continuing Education and Currency for those who have not practiced the profession for a extended time and then get back into profession, OK, understandable. Forget it for those who practice it daily, coupled with the information of new technolgies (and standards) available on the internet, we are on the edge of the knowledge curve and industry standads anyway.
If the Board really thinks they need a way of measuring what we know, then provide a series of on-line training and quiz programs. See AOPA air and safety foundation (as and example) for excellent on-line programs and quizes that test ones knowledge. A voluntary program such as this is sensible and efficient.
