The existing position on Dry Needling is strong and should be fully adopted. It requires adequate training, guided continuing education, and documented needling time before a practitioner may provide the service. It clearly differentiates the service from acupuncture so there is no confusion on the part of the patient.
Physical Therapists are uniquely trained at a Doctoral level and have industry leading musculoskeletal knowledge and background. They are more than capable of safely and effectively providing this service to the public.
Further, Virginia is an exemplary state in regards to excellence in medical care and should embrace this opportunity to improve access and quality services to its citizens.
