Criminals Don't Obey Gun Free Zones

Please reconsider the Executive Order 50 to ban the legal carry of firearms from government sites!

Studies show nearly all mass shootings occur in so-called "gun free zones." Why? Because criminally insane people don't care about the law-- and are drawn to where they can kill at will, not having to fear armed citizens who are the first defense against shootings!

Growing numbers of chiefs of police and sheriffs are calling for citizens to be armed in public places. And a growing majority of the public are pushing back against gun restrictions against law-abiding, peaceful citizens. Civilian gun owners, especially concealed permit holders, are the safest, most law-abiding people in the world!

Legally carrying a firearm gives one an enormous sense of responsibility---as every police officer well knows. And police know they cannot be at the crime scene the instant it happens!

We can only pray more political leaders realize this and try to educate those now afraid of guns and legal gun owners, to realize where the violence really comes from and how to prevent it, or stop it quickly when it suddenly comes.

The Commonwealth of Virginia gave America the Bill of Rights, including the God-given right to self defense, for a reason. Alert and law abiding citizens are key to the survival of liberty and prosperity, trusting us -- We The People-- to have good will and use sound judgment is the only way we can prevent crime while preserving peace and prosperity.

* All but two of the public massacres since 1950 had been committed by criminals and terrorists in “gun-free zones,” which is exactly what this regulation creates
* Off-duty police officers are also prevented from carrying
* Bans in rest stops send a very uninviting message to, and endanger the lives of, interstate travelers
* The cost of providing additional security to protect everyone who has been disarmed by this regulation will be prohibitive
* The ban won’t hold up in court, due to lack of authority by the Governor
* If parking lots are included in the ban, then citizens will be disarmed to and from their residences and everywhere in between
