Either apply the current TRAP regulations uniformly or not at all. If safety really is the issue, these regulations should be applied equally to all clinics providing out-patient surgery, to include but not limited to, doctors, dentists, and urgent care faciliteis or repeal or rewrite them. These restrictions single out abortion even though other procedures, such as colonoscopies, have a much higher rate of complications. The current regulations are the result of behind the scenes political arm twisting rather than the evidence-based regulations recommended by six top medical experts from across the state. Politics should not be allowed to dictate medical care.
Now is not the time to close more medical faciliteis when women in Virginia need them the most. Closing women's health care centers that provide critical cancer screenings and annual care at the same time that the Virginia legislature has refused to expand Medicaid to the states's 400,000 citizens without health care is immoral and ihumane. Using the TRAP regulations to close abortion clinics will not stop abortions. It will just send women back to the butchers where safety isn't an issue and neither is women's health care.
So, please apply the TRAP regulations uniformly to ALL clinics or repeal them!
