Recently women have died at abortion clinics in Pennsylvania and Maryland while undergoing abortions.  Now there are investigations and prosecutions of those who operate or work in those abortion clinics.  I believe that the rules proposed by the Board of Health for the Commonwealth of Virginia will prevent women from dying needlessly.  Women in Virginia should be protected, if they choose to have an abortion.  Many in the abortion industry argue that these rules are politically motivated and have nothing to do with the health and safety of women and are too expensive.  Women should not be put in jeopardy because the abortion industry does not want to spend the small amout of money required to comply with these regulations.  I hope that you continue to respect and protect women's health and safety and not bend to political pressure from the abortion lobbyists.  In addition, to the proposed rules, I recommend that you consider a hot line or e-mail address that would alert local inspectors to deficiencies at abortion clinics.  Women who use these facilities and the abortion clinic workers should be made aware of this hot line and should be encouraged to report violations.  State inspectors may be at the facilities only once per year.  This would allow concerned citizens, women that use the facilities and workers at the facilities to extend the ability to see and get deficiencies corrected.  Regulations are great but if not enforced, accomplish little.  Thank you for allowing me to comment.
