It is not too late for the Virginia Board of Health to stop the implementation of Virginia's new regulations on abortion providers. Both supporters and opponents know that these regulations are not really about protecting women's health. Rather, they are designed to limit women's access to legal, safe health services. The decision to have an abortion should be left up to the individual woman. Politicians and others with political and religious agendas should not be allowed to interfere with this decision with medically unnecessary regulations on service providers. Doctors, patients and citizens are right to be concerned with this interference into private health care decisions. I urge the Board to reject these regulations as inappropriate and unnecessary.
