Preserve Religious Freedom

I am writing concerning the Board of Social Services' decision to revise its regulations for child placing agencies.

On April 20, the State Board of Social Services correctly upheld the fundamental right of faith-based agencies to continue their great work without governmental intrusion into the practice of their faith.Virginia has been fortunate to benefit from the work of faith-based agencies in its child-placement procedures. These agencies provide a valuable service. In addition, the values these agencies hold to provide important benefits for young children in need of stable and supportive home environments.

Additionally, Faith-based agencies have a right, under federal and state law, to make decisions that are consistent with their religious beliefs, including their beliefs about marriage and family life. This right must be respected and preserved.

Please continue to support the work of faih-based agencies in providing placement for young children.
