Oppose 18 VAC 10 - 20

The requirement to develop regulations for a mandatory continuing educational requirement for professional engineer licenses would normally be supported, as I am a firm believer and advocate of continued education.   However, I oppose the regulatory activity proposed due to the lack of justified benefit and demonstrated benefit to health and safety of the public.   As a member of the IEEE, ISA and active practioneer of engineering with a world wide engineering firm, there already exists numberous requirements to demonstrate personal skill growth and development. It is mandatory just to stay employed and serve the public and private sector customers in a professional manner.  Having one more, and in some cases, more than one state (or Commonwealth) to satisfy effectively only administrative submittal documentation detracts for valuable time for continued growth and education.  The engineering community that I serve in has very benefical and quite specifically structured continuing education within the company, and the industry organizations such as the IEEE.   The  proposed regulation seems to dilute the true goal to better serve the public.

Many of the prior comments have already stated this in much detail.  Therefore, let me conclude that my voice is to  oppose the regulation for mandatory continuing educational as proposed.
