NO to proposal for c.e.u. requirement

A CEU requirement does not ensure professional quality or competance, nor does it necessarily provide for relevant professional growth.  Never once, in my experience nor in my colleagues' experience, have CEU courses proven to be of specific professional benefit, as they are geared to a broad audience or a specific consumer market.   CEUs are typically perceived as a grand waste of time and money by the professional.

What would be helpful, however, are presentations for engineers relating specifically to VA structural code requirements. Then, all engineers could be informed as to the particular local codes and permitting expectations. The state could charge for these presentations. I believe this approach could be more beneficial for quality control (for both the state and the engineer) and be more cost effective and time efficient for the professional.
