God gave us this earth on which to live - with plants, animals, fresh air and clean water. It is a gift to us. We can continue to ignore the fact that our development and ways of living have an impact on the health of our environment, or we can choose to be responsible for our actions.
We must have jobs, earn money, build places to live and work and play. We CAN do it responsibly. We CAN design it beautifully. It's a shame that we have to have legislation and regulations to force ourselves to be responsible for our impact on the earth that is our only home.
The argument that it is expensive is a factor. Yes, we need to think of the economics... I think about the billions and trillions of dollars it's taking to clean up the toxins we keep dumping into our streams and rivers.
The finger pointing (it's agriculture's fault - make them clean it up / it's my neighbor's fault - make him clean it up) is childish behavior.
So let's take it to a kid's level. Read "The Lorax" by Dr. Seuss. Look at our kid's future. I don't want my kid's drinking water to come from someone else's "gluppity glup" and "schloppity schlop"... yet here we are... arguing whether or not cleaning up our stormwater is a good idea...
Seriously?!?
