Guidance Document Change: In 2021, the Virginia General Assembly passed House Bill 1904 and Senate Bill 1196, and was signed into law by Governor Northam. The law establishes new requirements to support culturally competent educators in the Commonwealth. The Guidance on Cultural Competency Training for Teachers and Other Licensed School Board Employees in Virginia Public Schools was developed for the Board to fulfill the statutory mandate to provide guidance on the minimum standards for the local training requirement.

Yes please!!!!

Yes! I absolutely love this idea. I think it is a very good thing that all teachers can be educated in this matter. Almost all of our teachers at public schools are White. And most of them do not understand the struggles and the hardships a person from an ethnic group goes through. It may be a very common case and almost everyone knows that a lot of our ethnic groups suffer. But we can always go into depth and at least try to understand their struggles and difficulties. The more we know of their struggles the better. It is very tiring to see a person be put into the race norm. For example “oh they are brown they must smell like curry” most times it is put aside as a joke but in many cases it is just not nice and is very rude and mean. And it is especially heart breaking when we have grown adult teachers be racist ir make fun of other ethnic groups.
I really hope with our desecation we can make this happen. So many people who do not want to be misunderstood can learn by this and handle situations that they might be put into.
