Description of Proposed Guidance Document Changes
Guidance information for determining if a student has a significant cognitive disability as part of the criteria for participation in the Virginia Alternate Assessment Program (VAAP) was revised in August 2019. The information was updated to align with the language in the reauthorized Elementary and Secondary Education Act, “Every Student Succeeds Act.” Input from the field led to clarifying the use of Intelligence Quotients (IQ scores) in determining a significant cognitive disability, and the VDOE reference was updated.
