Please Pass The Poultry Litter Regulation

My name is Catherine Peltier and I live at 6807 19th RD N, Arlington, VA, 22205 (703-538-5287).

Like millions of residents in Virginia, my family and I fish in the Potomac River. I support the regulation of end users and brokers of poultry litter when that litter is used as fertilizer.  Several decades of unregulated, concentrated litter use in the Shenandoah Valley and Eastern Shore have already resulted in pollution that endangers the fish that live there and the people who eat them.

Please help improve the condition of our polluted rivers and ensure our still-healthy streams remain pristine by requiring litter application setbacks from sensitive environmental features and streams, soil testing to guide application rates, practices supporting application close to crop growing season, and better litter covering practices.  Thank you for considering my perspective.

Sincerely,
Catherine Peltier
