As someone who works in retail, I've always envied those who work in places like this. Standard procedure for us is to offer no resistance what so ever if someone enters the premises and intends to do us harm with any sort of weapon. If we are attacked, we are not to resist. If someone is hiding in the back stock room, we are to rat them out.
We have no security at all. In these places, at least you have armed individuals who can stop an attack, as no-gun signs clearly do not work. Threats of imprisonment do not work as most of the time these individuals expect to be killed or arrested anyway. This legislation serves only to put the employees at un-necessary risk by not allowing them to defend themselves or anyone to defend them. On the contrary, thanks to news reports, this is an open statement saying: "Hey, we have no guns here, please don't come shoot up the place or you'll be in big trouble."
Just like Target tried to do years ago before several of their stores were then same day victims of multiple armed robberies. This does not work. It must be stopped.
