I have taught in the regular and gifted programs of Virginia Beach for over 10 years. I am also the parent of four boys (one identified) who thrived in VBCPS. Last year, I had the great misfortune of teaching outside the state of Virginia. I found myself in an ineffective environment where top students were underdeveloped because they were not afforded the benefits of the best parctices that (up to now) have been made available to Virginians through gifted legislation. A vote to support this proposeal would be an egregious act toward children who deserve what any other child deserves: the best education! PLEASE VOTE NO to the proposed regulations that threaten to prevnet gifted children from the opportunities they need in order to reach their full potential.
