Shackling of Pregnant Inmates during labor

Dear Americans:

I demand  that the practice of shackling pregnant women in the Commonwealth of Virginia and across the nation be stopped immediately.  Shackling women who are giving birth is the ultilmate insult to women, mothers, and birthing child.  The practice is barbaric.  Shackling may harm either the woman or child. An injury may result due to this practice.   Now, isn't that what the state needs? It sounds like more law suits are coming to the taxpayer due  to a poor management decision.  Who or what group is responsible for the formation, implementation, and maintaining such an inhumane policy?  Name one medical organization that supports the process of shackling laboring women?  How do you treat the child after the birthing process?  I hope that it is with the best human dignity, health care, and human warmth.
