Our community has begun a Comprehensive and Roadside Management Program.  Residents and visitors love what a beautiful change this program has made.  We foresee greater opportunity to increase our gardens and lower VDOT Maintenance with the suggested regulatory change to 24VAC30-121-40.

expressing support

I am entirely in support of this change.   The LEAF program in Lynchburg has been a tremendous way to both beautify our expressway and allow local businesses an opportunity to sensitively advertize while supporting landscaping improvements.   It's a win-win situation, and this change in the regulations will only serve to make the opportunities greater for more highway gardens in more locations.

  • Given current municipal budget constraints, this regulation change can allow communities to improve their neighborhoods without any municipal fiscal outlay.

  • Our community will be able to design more gardens if the regulations are changed from ½ mile spacing to ¼ mile spacing.  In this economy, we need to show positive change in projects.

  • Our community’s landscape contracting businesses will benefit from increased garden installations as a result of this regulation change.
  • Given current municipal budget constraints, this regulation change can allow communities to improve their neighborhoods without any municipal fiscal outlay.
  • The City of Lynchburg has had over $1.75 million in donations for gardens.  Our community can use that kind of economic boost in our challenging recession.
  • Our community has begun a Comprehensive and Roadside Management Program.  Residents and visitors love what a beautiful change this program has made.  We foresee greater opportunity to increase our gardens and lower VDOT Maintenance with the suggested regulatory change to 24VAC30-121-40.
  • The City of Lynchburg follows the ¼ mile spacing rule for signage.  Their highways are beautiful and uncluttered.  Mayor Joan Foster cites visitors move to Lynchburg because of their beautiful highways.  Our community would like the same kind of highway experience.  This program and regulatory change can enable our town to be transformed.
  • Our entire office is in support of changing the VDOT regulation to ¼ mile spacing between signs!  We love highway gardens!
  • We are big supporters of Liberty University.  We would love to see them implement even more gorgeous gardens along their Route 460 frontage through donations.
  • We encourage this regulation change to reduce maintenance for a state program already struggling with job loss.
  • Our community could see higher revenue through increased tourism with more highway gardens.
  • Our family/business sponsors a sign in Lynchburg/Rocky Mount/Liberty University.  We will continue to sponsor this great program and would love to see more opportunities for gardens.

LEAF Program

The LEAF program has transformed Lynchburg's roads for the better, and the density of the

sponsor signs is not an issue in terms of appearance or distraction.

Please allow signage less than 1/2 mile apart.

Comprehensive Roadside Management Program

I definitely support the proposed changes.  And I'd like to add that the beautiful gardens on Liberty University's campus are a big plus for the City of Lynchburg.  Beautification anywhere in our city helps tourism!  And since Rt. 460 cuts right through the LU campus, it's an ideal spot for gardens.  Also, they complement the other landscaping on campus.  Beautiful!
